A little less than two months after the first public release of the new AdaptCMS 3.x line, Beta 2 is now available in a limited release. The new version brings the first base version of AdaptBB and many plugin additions altogether. (asset management ... [More] , permissions, settings and more) Much of the work also was refactoring code - this lead to improvement in code overall and numerous bugs as well as fixing a few area where stability was a concern. A wordpress converter was also created, which could see the creation of similar conversion tools. This release is limited again because there is still much left and our first full blown public release will be 3.0. Before now and then, there will be one more Beta - this will knock out any bugs we find, any browser compatibility issues and likely will involve some cooler things. (possibly a few more plugins, possible LESS integration) Once Beta 3 is decently under way, we will likely then look at what all will be done with it and what will be done with 3.0 before release. Once the sites that will launch are done behind the scenes, we should have a good idea of a time period when it will release and will post here. Included are instructions on how to install this version. We just ask to report any issues (or suggestions) and that if you start to use this release for a public site - you can upgrade, this started with the first beta - but we recommend waiting for 3.0 to fully release as we have not done a sweep for security issues/bugs. With the limited release of AdaptCMS Beta the not so exciting stage of development has started and is continuing. This stage consists almost entirely of refactoring code, browser testing and overall beta testing. Work has also started on an AdaptBB ... [More] Plugin. This will be a fairly small version but will receive many updates in the future. This is going to be a short post because all the work that has been done, or most of it, is nothing that is flashy or can be shown off. The biggest feature done was probably the Wordpress Converter and the expanded functionality of plugins. Plugins now have settings and configuration options. The only other thing of note is that we are looking at another limited public release beta of Beta 2 to come out, likely, by the end of April. This will leave just one more version to go until the full release of AdaptCMS 3.0. Stay tuned for a blog in the coming weeks on the AdaptBB plugin. [Less]

The first public release of the 3.x line of AdaptCMS has been officially released. It is a limited release, which means while it is availble to the public, we are largely not promoting it. This is because we recommend users that download this, to at ... [More] least have minor PHP knowledge - but it is a fairly stable version. Included are instructions on how to install this version. In the admin panel, after installation, users will also find a bug report tool due to this release being a beta. Outside of that, have fun. We just ask to report any issues (or suggestions) and that if you start to use this release for a public site - starting with this version, future versions will be upgradeable so while we reccommend waiting until the 3.0 Final release, webmasters can start early now.   Updates have been decently sporadic, the last few weeks has been a break off after getting a ton done from the release of AdaptCMS Alpha 2 up till middle January. Inbetween there we finished a ton of AdaptCMS stuff which will be detailed soon, but ... [More] a huge amount of progress was done on the new version of AdaptCMS.com. The site is getting a facelift and re-done totally, getting a lot more info packed in with a lot more user functionality. In the rest of the post I'll go over some of the big things that will be on the site and how it will affect users. Continue on.   [Less]

Since the last blog, despite thinking there would be a good sized break, I went full coding over the holidays. Since then it has calmed down a bit, but flared back up. Right now we're a good two months ahead of schedule - it could release today and ... [More] would have plenty of done, but instead we'll take the time to do more research on the bigger items and hopefully get some big stuff done for the first public beta. The only bad news to report is that, for now, there is no upgrade from 2.0.4 to beta nor when the final is released. (that could change) The reason is that the SQL is almost completely different, different hashed passwords, completely different templating language and template setup. But we'll wait and see. For now though, check inside to see a few of the cool new things that we finished recently for the Beta and stay tuned for updates! [Less]

One of the things you have to do (to be a somewhat decent web developer) as someone who makes CMS's is, essentially to search time to time to see if someone has broken or attacked your software. This has happened in the past with AdaptCMS (it happens ... [More] with every software in existence, see - Windows) and we are very quick to fix these bugs or security holes. I searched several times for the most recent version, 2.0.4, but found nothing until today. Posted on a few sites, including 1337day (a good site in the past, for CMS exploits) which has posted an AdaptCMS 2.0.4 CSRF Vulnerability. Here's the link to it below: Check it Out Looking at the code, I initially thought that this was a security hole - however I cannot reproduce what this alleged "Vulnerability" is clearly trying to allege. Essentially it is a self-submitting form with hidden values containing username, password, email and group to a target site with the correct URL as if you were adding a user in the admin area yourself. In principle, it makes sense. The problem is, the system stops this. I tested this live, but if I am mis-understanding the purpose of the code - any group out there, please tell me. (dealing with numerous hackers in the past, I ask to please contact me, don't prove your point by doing a DDOS attack or something) As it is right now, you first must have a cookie on the site and a session matching the user credintials in the database of an admin to access that url - no matter where it is. In the main configuration, before anything is rendered, this check is done. Testing it live myself, I was re-directed to the login page and after checking my database, no records inserted. Take this post as an open question to any group that posted this attack, if I made a mistake I do want to fix it immediately. But secondly, to users of AdaptCMS or those that might be interested - until further notice, I consider this reported attack to be false. Thank you. Sincerely, Charlie Page [Less]
