Originally on: https://www.adaptcms.com/posts/beta-work-begins Hello All! We have a quick update, just to let people the basics of what's been going on with the CMS and what's upcoming. Alpha is out and available, post-release patching is done and ... [More] work on the next version - AdaptCMS 4.0 Beta, began a few weeks ago. A more proper update, detailing some of the features we'll be working on and such will be out in the next week or two. Get Involved So first thing's first, we need your help! We're just a small open source software team right now and we'd love to get people involved in the project, so we can reach more users and build a better, more bad-ass CMS - while releasing the first public release in a timely manner. Checkout the Get Involved page Developers are a priority, it's not a must, but if you have used Laravel/know some of it - that is great. But front-end, designers, marketers, feel free to reach out and we can figure out how you can help! Permissions Management This is partially done already. Each installation will have pre-installed roles and assigned permissions to them. Users can then add additional roles, easily customizing the permissions for any page on your entire website. Global Search While search was partially implemented, we will be introducing a global public side and admin side searches. Custom Field Types This is a little ways off, but we plan on bringing at least custom field types to the CMS and Marketplace. This means people could create a google maps field type or implement an IMDB search - then display the IMDB rating for the movie when viewing that post, for example. In Conclusion Before we get to a few of those things, we're focused on squashing some current bugs and brainstorming how we can and what we need to build, to attract different types of user bases. Stay tuned in the next week or so for another update. [Less]

AdaptCMS 3.0.3 has been released! This version ended up being a "smaller" sized release, plenty of new things but a lot of the major new additions/enhancements ended up being very time consuming. By the time this is being read, we will already be ... [More] starting on planning for 3.0.4 and 3.0.5 - the former may be a medium-large sized release. Release highlights: Article Enhancements - There was a lot added to improve the functionality of managing articles in the admin. You can preview an article as you edit it, revisions have been adding allowing a history of an article to be managed. With the new revisions, users can now choose a quick save and auto-save method to allow for quick and easy saving without leaving the page - in addition, revisions can be previewed. Bootstrap/FontAwesome Upgrade - The admin look and feel has been updated to the newest version of Bootstrap. Since bootstrap 3.0 is very different and fontawesome also changed their naming conventions, we decided it was a good time to upgrade. The design is largely around the same as before, but the main admin page has been upgraded and the overall look/feel is "bigger" and less round, which is the Boostrap 3 look. Addon Creator - A fairly big feature, the addon creator is a new feature written in AngularJS that will provide an easy interface to create a plugin or theme. The main purpose of the app is to make it easy to create either, along with providing the ability to do most things inside AdaptCMS without having to edit files via FTP. The first version is fairly simple, but we have plans to expand it over time. Media Libraries - The "media modal" was recoded into angularJS, making it a quicker and very stable feature now. Libraries can also now be linked to articles, providing the functionality of linking to a list of libraries, showing numerous images or the latest image from linked libraries on an article page. Very useful for video game websites. With the release of 3.0.3, the documentation has also been update covering a lot of areas, this can be viewed here: http://documentation.adaptcms.com/3.0.3/Setup/Installation You can also see a full list of changes below: https://github.com/adaptcms/AdaptCMS/blob/3.0.3/CHANGELOG.md [Less]

Updates have been slow lately - we took the longest break we've had since 3.0 was released, the good news is 3.0.3 will be releasing March 29th. Between now and then, the bulk of the work is hunting for bugs and preparing for release. Below are some ... [More] of the biggest new enhancements or new features to the new version: Admin > Article Enhancements There is a lot of new things for articles. For one, the media modal was recoded so picking an image to attach to an article is quicker. Users can now attach libraries to articles which is a big feature - that means when viewing an article, you can show an image (or all of them) from a library and link to it without having to manually attach an image to an article. You can now preview an article before it goes up on the site - this affects all field types, from selecting an image to the title of the article. Article revisions is another new feature for articles, allowing you to restore a previous iteration and the ability to preview what they look like. In combination with article revisions are revision types of a traditional save, a "quick save" and an "auto save". Up to 10 traditional saves will be kept per article, with new ones overwriting the oldest ones. Then there can be 1 auto save and 1 quick save - quick save is simply a button on the admin navigation that clicking saves it, auto save allows you to pick an interval of 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes and it will save on it's own as long as that page is kept open. Admin > Create a Plugin/Create a Theme Starting simple right now, there is a new angular app to let users easily create a theme and plugin. While there was already functionality for adding a theme before, this helps prepare your theme for submission if you are interested in it in the future and optionally will setup a default layout and views. Creating a plugin will optionally create controllers/models/views if you so choose. In the future, we plan on adding more functionality to both of these and to provide a direct line between the app and submitting your plugin or theme on the official API website. Admin > Bootstrap 3 It took a lengthy amount of time, we have fully transitioned the admin interface to Boostrap 3. We have also upgraded the fontAwesome icon pack to the newest version. The biggest change will be the main admin page, which uses the new Boostrap panel feature - though the changes with the admin area overall will be quite obvious. This will likely be the last significant design change for the admin or frontend until the next major version. Stay tuned! [Less]
