K2 for Joomla!

Start your update engines! K2 v2.5.7 is now available to download. If you're in Joomla! version 1.7 to version 2.5, you can update from 2.5.5 or 2.5.6 to this latest build directly via the built-in Joomla! updater. If you're on Joomla! 1.5 or if you ... [More] use a version prior to K2 v2.5.5, just grab the zip file and upload on top. There are no template changes since 2.5.4 so you can safely upgrade with no need to check you MVC overrides on your template. This is a maintenance release. Compared to v2.5.6, we fixed warnings/bugs/annoyances/gremlins mainly appearing in Joomla! 2.5.Most notable changes are: We are introducing JSON & JSONP content output. This is phase 1 towards a true REST capable K2 release coming in version 3. We want you to be able to turn your Joomla! & K2 website into a source of content ready to be consumed or updated by third-party applications, e.g. a mobile application that reads and posts content to your K2 powered Joomla! website. Or simple stuff like AJAX calls are now a piece of cake for developers. To quickly set you up, just append 'format=json&limit=X&page=Y' to any K2 generated URL, replacing X with the number of items you want to fetch (with a forced limit of 100) and Y as the page number (if you wish to break your results in pages). At its simplest form, just append 'format=json' to get the default K2 output in JSON. The additional GET parameters mentioned above only work in categories, user pages, tags etc. If you append 'format=json' to an item URL you will get all the item's contents in JSON format. Additionally, you can pass a callback function to the above URLs in case you want to wrap the output in a function. The format is 'format=json&callback=Z', replacing Z with your callback function name. We have fixed a nasty bug where Flickr galleries set via Simple Image Gallery Pro where not displaying the frontend of your site, but had no problem rendering in the backend! I know, some of you almost got insane with this stupid bug. All sorted now of course. We now allow 'content' plugins in Joomla! 2.5 to be properly rendered in the category description. Previously this was only possible in Joomla! 1.5. So now you can -for example- execute the 'loadposition' plugin in your category descriptions. When deleting an item that contains audio files, these audio files are now properly deleted. Fixed a bug in category inheritance. Now when a category is set to inherit the parameters from another category, it will NOT also inherit the metadata from this other gallery but maintain its own unique metadata. Fixed issue regarding the email button on item view (only affecting Joomla! 1.5 websites). This is the new K2 demo site.After almost 3 years of the previous design, it was time for an update. A more "practical" update, almost a real-world site. And this is the result :)As we announced on Twitter some months ago and just recently, this new ... [More] demo website will be fully open-sourced so that people can learn by example. But there's another reason as well... Once the site is released as an installable package with its K2 setup and sample data ready, we will launch a small contest for the best redesigns of this website. The goal is simple. Keep the same sample data and work your magic. This contest is obviously targeted at experienced designers/developers and template clubs. A few months ago we launched the revamped K2 website at getk2.org which integrated a new Community forum, located at http://getk2.org/community. We decided to move to an "all Joomla!" solution for more flexibility and better integration with the new ... [More] features launched for the K2 site, like the ability to submit extensions or templates for the new K2 Extensions Directory. This new K2 Community has grown tremendously these few months and it's continuing to grow day by day. So it's now time to shut down the OLD K2 community site at community.getk2.org, which was hosted on the (proprietary & restrictive) Ning platform. We plan to take down the OLD K2 community located at community.getk2.org on March 30th 2012.If you want to migrate your member profile page from the old K2 community to the new K2 Community, all you need to do is visit this page http://getk2.org/register-or-sign-in and choose to login using your old community credentials. So click on the button that says "K2 Community" (located bottom - right) and use your login credentials from the old community to login. Once you do that, your account from the old community will instantly be MIGRATED to the NEW K2 Community. Using the built-in extension updater in Joomla! you can check if there's a new K2 release and instantly apply the update Community Builder integration for user profiles/pages the K2 Media Manager has been upgraded and now supports image resizing as well! Just drag and drop images from your desktop inside the K2 Media Manager to upload them on your server, then resize and use them anywhere in your Joomla! site. The K2 Media Manager, already a full Joomla! media manager replacement, just got better! (new) Added support for Falang, the JoomFish fork currently working on Joomla! 1.7 & 2.5 (JoomFish is not yet ready publicly for J2.5 - but that will come soon). Fixed issue preventing managers from changing author in item edit form (under Joomla! 1.5) Fixed sh404SEF issue with K2 feeds Added new ordering option "most recent first (by date published)". This option is especially useful for websites where scheduling items to be published in the future is very important (e.g. in major publications). Items will appear sorted by publishing date (descending). If you already have 2.5.3 installed on your site, there are no template changes to v2.5.4, so you can safely update to this latest version ASAP.
