We've just issued version 2.6.1 of K2 which fixes a few minor bugs reported from our users in all Joomla! versions supported by K2.These bugs are either "notices" popping up in various places in the backend or style related glitches. So far we've

sorted what's been reported, but hey, Joomla! released 3.0.1 just yesterday so don't be surprise for a 2.6.2 in the weeks to come ;)...Grab the update here: http://getk2.googlecode.com/files/K2_v2.6.1.zipIf you are on Joomla! 1.5, grab the zip file from the link above and install it on top of your existing K2 version. If you are on Joomla! 2.5 or 3.0, go to the Joomla! update manager, purge the update cache, re-check and you'll see the new release available to instantly update. If you are on Joomla! 1.6 or 1.7 then someone probably cut off your internet connection a year ago: upgrade to 2.5 now!!However, there are 2 important changes that you need to be aware of:1. The module mod_k2_login has been completely dropped from the K2 package. Use mod_k2_user instead. If you upgrade to K2 v2.6.1, you're mod_k2_login module will simply not work. So if you haven't already, do the switch now to mod_k2_user. If you don't want digital garbage left behind, feel free to uninstall mod_k2_login. Anything you do, BACKUP FIRST!2. All "user" related template override files (2 inside components/com_k2/templates called register.php and profile.php and another 2 in /modules/mod_k2_user/tmpl/) have been updated since 2.6.0 and simplified in 2.6.1 to avoid Joomla! specific input form rendering. We previously used a PHP constant to determine whether we were gonna render input fields the Joomla! 1.5 or 1.6+ way. This is basically what happens when the Joomla! API constantly changes, but that's another story to tell... So because of that, you NEED TO UPDATE all these 4 overrides. We will be providing template overriding packages so you can use a program like WinMerge (Windows) or FileMerge (Mac) to determine the exact changes and apply them to your overrides in your site. If you don't use any overrides for these files, then you don't need to do anything obviously. If you do this work now and upgrade to 2.6.1, any update following (2.6.2 etc.) will be painless. In the future we'll be more careful to decouple such PHP/Joomla! API logic from template overrides and provide them "as clean as possible", so they are future-proof.We're also aware of a few "setup" glitches, mainly that the backend dashboard modules are not setup there after K2 is installed or upgraded in Joomla! 3.0. You can go ahead and publish them on your own in the "cpanel" position via the module manager for "administrator" modules.Update: We have now updated the K2 template overrides page. You'll see that the only changes between v2.6.0 and 2.6.1 are reflected in the 4 overrides we mentioned earlier. [Less]

Today we're excited to announce the release of K2 v2.6.0 for Joomla! versions 1.5, 2.5 and the newest release 3.0!For the lazy ones, here's a direct download link to v2.6.0: http://getk2.googlecode.com/files/K2_v2.6.0.zipIf we could sum up the

highlights of this release, full compatibility with Joomla! 3.0 is certainly highlight no.1! Features like responsive layout, drag and drop on lists or the new combined view of the component's parameters in the backend are now standard with K2.Thanks to our Community members, we also managed to track down and fix over a dozen bugs which you can browse over at our SVN changelog.jQuery & jQueryUI have been updated to their latest releases and in Joomla! 3.0 we make sure tha the jQuery library only is not loaded as jQuery is now the main JavaScript library to power the newest Joomla! version (and future ones). We've also upgraded the Facebook meta tags to use the OpenGraph spec. Previously Facebook had stopped supporting the "image" meta tag which K2 used. So sharing on Facebook should now work as intended :)We've also introduced JSON format output for the K2 Content module. If you enable the RSS feed option in the moduleparameters and then click on the generated RSS link icon in the module's output, you'll get the RSS feed for the contents of this module instance. If you swap format=feed to format=json in the browser's bar, you'll get a nice JSON interpretation (handy for building even cooler widgets with K2 Content)!Version 2.6.0 also marks the official introduction of Josetta support for K2. Josetta is a new Joomla! component that aims to make managing multi-lingual sites with Joomla! a piece of cake. Oh, and did we mention? It's built by the sh404SEF folks, Anything Digital! To the geeks among us, rest assured that K2 will now work just fine with PHP v5.4 (for Joomla! 2.5 and above - Joomla! 1.5 was not made for PHP v5.4...).Since Joomla! 3.0 is a brand new release, it's bound to change in the coming updates (to 3.0.1, 3.0.2 etc.) so we'll update K2 v2.6 accordingly. Also, K2 v2.6 is the last release to support all the major 3 Joomla! versions (1.5, 2.5 and 3.0) at the moment. And when we say "major" we mean the versions that most Joomla! sites use today... So we'll only update v2.6 to fix bugs on the way as Joomla! 3.0 progresses, but since Joomla! 1.5 is now considered "end of life", the newest K2 v3.0 currently under development will not support Joomla! 1.5.So if you plan on using K2 for many years to come, you're still on Joomla! 1.5 and was thinking of upgrading to Joomla! 2.5 or 3.0, now's the time to start planning that. K2 v2.6 will still be functional for Joomla! 1.5 but we will not introduce any new features.Actually, we're very excited on the work we're doing for K2 v3.0 as we believe it will "raise the bar" once more in the JoomlaSphere :) We are putting all our focus there and gradually we will be revealing some of the cool features introduced as development of K2 v3.0 progresses. We estimate that a beta of K2 v3.0 will be released before Christmas. As always, the upgrade path from K2 v2.x to v3.x will be a piece of cake. There will be a follow-up blog post with the minor template changes from 2.5.7 to 2.6.0. But don't worry, you don't need to update your overrides anytime soon ;)Also expect Joomla! 3.0 compatible updates next week to AllVideos and Simple Image Gallery Pro.P.S. Our congrats to Kyle Ledbetter for leading the way to Joomla! 3.0. The big change in the UI and overall UX is very important for Joomla! if it wants to keep up with a constantly evolving market. We firmly believe that with great brains and now great looks in version 3, nothing can stop Joomla! from conquering even a bigger share in the worldwide CMS market. [Less]

Nearly 35 Joomla fans, users and developers have come to learn more about what myself and my team at Joomi have been using for the past 2+ years as one of our main must-have extension for Joomla projects - K2.For those unaware, Israel has a vibrant Joomla community, led by a handful of professionals with a passion for open-source technologies and dedication to sharing knowledge and enlighting others.Ofer Cohen, an OSM board member (whose donation to the Israeli Joomla community is to be noted) and I, have decided that after many requests and questions asked on the forums of joomla.org.il, it is time to expose people to a great extension and put to rest those who have claimed K2 was "too complicated" to start with.During the 2.5 hours keynote, I presented the main uses of K2, discussed the attributes made available to content entities and ended with a peek into the basics of templating.Feedbacks were good, and I know of at least one person who decided to give K2 a test drive for their own needs straight after the presentation!* Attached are the keynote files both in English and Hebrew.
I'd like to thank Google for having us and JoomlaWorks for this great extension!Looking forward to seeing you at Joomla Day IL 2012,Eyal Ronel [Less]

Start your update engines! K2 v2.5.7 is now available to download. If you're in Joomla! version 1.7 to version 2.5, you can update from 2.5.5 or 2.5.6 to this latest build directly via the built-in Joomla! updater. If you're on Joomla! 1.5 or if you

use a version prior to K2 v2.5.5, just grab the zip file and upload on top. There are no template changes since 2.5.4 so you can safely upgrade with no need to check you MVC overrides on your template. This is a maintenance release. Compared to v2.5.6, we fixed warnings/bugs/annoyances/gremlins mainly appearing in Joomla! 2.5.Most notable changes are:
We are introducing JSON & JSONP content output. This is phase 1 towards a true REST capable K2 release coming in version 3. We want you to be able to turn your Joomla! & K2 website into a source of content ready to be consumed or updated by third-party applications, e.g. a mobile application that reads and posts content to your K2 powered Joomla! website. Or simple stuff like AJAX calls are now a piece of cake for developers. To quickly set you up, just append 'format=json&limit=X&page=Y' to any K2 generated URL, replacing X with the number of items you want to fetch (with a forced limit of 100) and Y as the page number (if you wish to break your results in pages). At its simplest form, just append 'format=json' to get the default K2 output in JSON. The additional GET parameters mentioned above only work in categories, user pages, tags etc. If you append 'format=json' to an item URL you will get all the item's contents in JSON format. Additionally, you can pass a callback function to the above URLs in case you want to wrap the output in a function. The format is 'format=json&callback=Z', replacing Z with your callback function name.
We have fixed a nasty bug where Flickr galleries set via Simple Image Gallery Pro where not displaying the frontend of your site, but had no problem rendering in the backend! I know, some of you almost got insane with this stupid bug. All sorted now of course.
We now allow 'content' plugins in Joomla! 2.5 to be properly rendered in the category description. Previously this was only possible in Joomla! 1.5. So now you can -for example- execute the 'loadposition' plugin in your category descriptions.
When deleting an item that contains audio files, these audio files are now properly deleted.
Fixed a bug in category inheritance. Now when a category is set to inherit the parameters from another category, it will NOT also inherit the metadata from this other gallery but maintain its own unique metadata.
Fixed issue regarding the email button on item view (only affecting Joomla! 1.5 websites).
For any other geek, see the detailed changelog on the SVN server here: http://code.google.com/p/getk2/source/list [Less]
