DigiKam has come a long way since the early beginnings in 2002. It has come of age and deserves new cloths or a new 'corporate design' in today's parlance. To find a new slogan, a new logo, iconized slash screen and web design has been itching me ... [More] and others for quite a while now. But those are sensitive and difficult subjects, in particular for us amateurs in that field. A contest is herewith opened to create such new cloths, closing end of march 2008. We shall then make a pre-selection and vote on the best candidates. I will act as coordinator and point of contact. Please supply your proposals to gerhard at kulzer dot net. The German computer magazine c't will publish a special issue (subject: Mac) which includes a CD ROM with corresponding freeware and shareware programs (publishing date: april 2008). Your software "digiKam" has been pre-selected to be put on this CD ROM.

During my Christmas holliday, i have processed over 1000 RAW pictures taken with my Minolta Dynax 5D camera. In my workflow, i create PNG images from MRW raw files using editor as 16 bits color depth lossless compressed reference pictures, and later ... [More] PNG are batch converted to JPEG for publishing or printing. All my pictures are stored in a same album. I use icon-view filters to work on the right file accordinly with the context, especially the mime-type filter. I have discovered an usability problem with icon-view filters: it still active in all Albums from collection. If you set filters settings for an Album it will be used as well for another one. But when a setting is right for one album, it can be wrong for another one... read more [Less]

Since digiKam 0.9.3 is released, i working hard to a new major feature for digiKam 0.9.4 : a Time-Line to perform complex date search around whole image collection. From digiKam mailing and from blog entries over the web, a reccurent question is always ask : why my new Camera witch can provide RAW file is not supported by digiKam... To this question, the response is simple: digiKam use our libkdcraw C ... [More] interface including a fully tested version of dcraw program. This dcraw version can be an older release, depending of backport progress done by digiKam team. And of course this version support a dedicaced list of RAW camera files witch can not include the most recent RAW camera devices.
