odhecaton

Recreating the idea of Harmonice Musices Odhecaton (or simply Odhecaton) – published by Petrucci in 1501 first music ever printed using movable type that drove music publishing and spread Franco-Flemish musical style across the Europe – The Odhecaton Project aims to redefine the way early ... [More] counterpoint, this most graceful manifestation of synergy in human activity, is notated, analysed and spread: simply, intuitively and elegantly as it should, for musical culture's sake, be. The Odhecaton Project uses modernized White Mensural Notation, which discards artifacts of technical limitations of it's time and unifies local deviations and nomenclature, thus focuses on the notation's essence. This, ipso facto, revives those concepts of early music which are making it so damn attractive: human voice oriented, sketchy, interpretable pieces of music which lets people clearly and directly express their ideas and emotions. For it's medium The Odhecaton Project required creation of new XML specification, which – unlike MusicXML's mix of musical concepts & notation – directly represents the way early music is actually notated. Authentic documents can thus be preserved and it's interpretation can still be based on ever deepening historical research, and it's analysis with use of designed above these studies algorithms. Architecture of The Odhecaton Project applications' API is being constructed with strictly musical concepts in mind, directly reflecting XML data model, with modern and pure object oriented programming techniques, apart from any platform-specific features, so as to be implementable in any modern environment. Interfaces of The Odhecaton Project applications will implement direct manipulation on content by natural, intuitive, instantly feedbacked behavior and interaction inspired by touch oriented input. And because casting notes is like casting type with need for highly professional touch & feel, same applications will set it on the fly with result of clear and minimalistic aesthetic. XML specification, applications architecture and interaction outlines are quite ready now, but it's still a private project so actual development is quite slow, but steady; to be open-sourced soon. just starting out, but it's a collection of classes to represent things in music as objects for manipulation with python (my first idea was to build a melody generator) Built with midi in mind so that midi output will be easy as pie. notes are stored in a format like C4, A#5, etc. Will work on Docs when I have time
