Website categorization API is a project whose main purpose is to provide machine learning classifications of websites, but also general texts. There are two taxonomies available, one is standard IAB taxonomy and the other is taxonomy from Google products definitions. IAB is suitable for marketing purposes, because its categories were developed with ads in mind. The typical use would be e.g. for Real-TIme-Bidding (RTB) firms where you want to place an ad on those publishers websites whose content is in the same category as the category of the content of ads. E.g. you would not want to publish ad of industrial company on a gaming website, because it would not have a good conversion due to mismatch in interests of users.
