Project Summary

SunForm is a free, open-source solar exposure analysis tool that runs in your browser. The tool is currently in open BETA. Load an IFC model of your building and its surroundings, set the site location and date range, and SunForm calculates how much direct sunlight reaches each surface, displayed as a colour-mapped heat map on the 3D model in real time using Three.js.

Sun positions are computed with the Spencer solar position algorithm, and shading is resolved by casting rays against the model geometry using Möller-Trumbore ray-triangle intersection. Surfaces are subdivided adaptively so walls, roofs and ground planes are all analysed in a single pass, and results are rendered per pixel for smooth, readable gradients.
