I have been looking around all over for good Linux MUD clients. Trying various of them, but the command tool versions are way too much work for little benefit in my book - I am not a MUD power user, I have no need to script hundreds of steps of an action in a go. I am a roleplayer and I just want a simple, solid way to input text in a multi-line input field (preferably more than one so one can alternate for long texts). So I looked over the available gui-based ones under Linux. These are certainly more manageable, but they also all lacked or had very limited input fields (or they where buggy). None did suit me.

I eventually had to be content with MUSHclient - a Windows client which requires to be run under Wine. This is very extensive, but running under Wine it has a bunch of quirks with the interface and how it handles the clipboard.

This is why I was so content to stumble upon Spyrit. I must say that this little gem has almost all I want in a MUD client - it has a graphical interface (fully command-key driven if you want), large and wide input fields (including an second, optional one) and it allows easy logging. That it is written in Python is another bonus to me.

I use Spyrit exclusively for MUD:ing these days and can really recommend it. It allows logging (would be nice with an option to let it auto-start though, I keep forgetting to hit the button) and the two input fields are ideal for both MUD and MUSH alike. And once you find where the keyboard shortcuts are defined in the python code, it's easy to configure it to your liking as well.
