The OmegaT Project announces the release of OmegaT 6.0 - the latest version of its free computer-aided translation (CAT) tool designed for professionals.
Download link: https://omegat.org/download
OmegaT 6.0 brings 86 enhancements and 89 bug fixes
... [More]
compared to the 4.3.3 version1.
This update introduces a range of new features designed to make the translation process more efficient and effective. You can see the complete list of new features and bug fixes in the changes.txt file on the development site. This document is a very valuable resource for users who want to learn more about OmegaT 6.0.
OmegaT is now developed with Java 11. Users who run OmegaT with a locally installed Java JRE now have to use Java 112.
Important note for macOS users: This new version is currently unsigned and may require additional steps to install. If you have difficulty launching OmegaT, see the "Open a Mac app from an unidentified developer" guide.
Improved User Experience
The OmegaT Project surveyed its users to determine an appropriate set of default settings. The results were incorporated in the new defaults selected and implemented in this update.
OmegaT 6.0 comes with a completely rewritten user manual. This new comprehensive documentation makes it easier for users to understand what each function does and get the most out of the tool. The interface features a new layout optimized for larger screens that opens several panes in the main window by default, as well as clearer text and descriptions in the menus and preferences. This update also introduces new default keyboard shortcuts such as switching from the Notepad (the renamed Notes pane) to the Editor pane, putting the powerful features of OmegaT at the users’ fingertips.
The daunting regular expressions used in functions such as search and replace, segmentation, and custom tags have been made more accessible thanks to a thoroughly revised appendix presenting a gentle introduction to very useful regular expressions. In addition, the new \d+ default custom tag enables users to test custom tags right away in their project.
Emphasis on Teamwork
Several new features have been added to optimize teamwork and the translation process.
Users who do not need frequent synchronization or translation conflict resolution can now automatically put the memories generated by the project in a shared folder thanks to the new option to set an export folder for those memories. Doing so will provide quick access to shared translations and lead to more consistent and accurate translations.
Team projects now offer improved Git and Subversion (SVN) integration, enabling smoother collaboration between team members. OmegaT also offers sturdier team project updates. This enhancement reduces the likelihood of errors and inconsistencies in the final translation, ultimately improving the overall workflow and productivity of the team.
Modernized Core Functionality
OmegaT 6.0 offers modernized core functionality with the integration of file filters originally developed for the EU Directorate-General for Translation (DGT). These filters add standard XLIFF support to OmegaT and improve the OmegaT’s handling of Microsoft Office OpenXML files. The old XLIFF and MS OpenXML filters are still available for backward compatibility purpose but are marked as "obsolete".
A lot of work has taken place to ease plugins organization and use.
Whether you are a new or experienced OmegaT user, these updates are sure to improve your translation experience. Please visit our website: https://omegat.org/ for more information about OmegaT or to download the software.
OmegaT, by translators, for translators
The OmegaT Project always welcomes developers, localizers, and users to contribute their experience, knowledge, and insights to the software we release.
Thank you to everyone who worked on this update over the last 3 years. Your contributions have been invaluable to this project!
Donations to our "Thank you OmegaT" account on PayPal are welcome!
(1) OmegaT 6.0 consolidates the former Standard and Latest versions into a single Standard user version that always comes with updated documentation. ↩
(2) Those of you who cannot use Java 11 can install OmegaT 5.8 instead. OmegaT 5.8 will be released shortly after OmegaT 6.0. OmegaT 5.8 runs on Java 8 and is functionally equivalent to OmegaT 6.0. However, except for bug fixes, there will be no further updates to OmegaT 5.8. ↩

OmegaT 5.4.4 brings 1 enhancement for plugin developers. There are no user-facing changes in behavior.
OmegaT is published as a Maven resource for use in developing plugins. For this purpose it has been hosted on Bintray/JCenter, which will be
... [More]
shutting down in May 2021.
OmegaT and its dependencies that are published under the org.omegat* group ID have migrated to Maven Central. Users who consume OmegaT as a Maven resource should update to org.omegat:omegat:5.4.4 and remove any references to JCenter or the Bintray repository.
Many thanks to contributor Hiroshi Miura, who did much of the investigation that allowed a successful migration; see RFE#1551 for details.
