The betrayer's engine was quite outdated compared to recent development on KQ. I think it was based off a 2006 or 2007 release. Something had to be done, so I decided to refork KQ and try to keep the engine up to date this time. I have finished the ... [More] reforking. The Betrayer Subversion "trunk" is up to date with the KQ cvs. As well as having the changes that I have made: Portrait dialogues, 4 player parties, varying store prices, new graphics, and a few other minor changes. Some of the new changes that the KQlives team added are a lua console in debug mode, translation support, and bug fixes. Now I need to work on the story, some side quests and balancing. Then it will be time for another release. (I'm shooting for sometime this summer) [Less]

Kqthebetrayer is now on ohloh. Their data crawlers added it so I registered to ensure the information is up to date. They also have some pretty nifty code statistics. https://www.ohloh.net/p/kqthebetrayer New features have been added since the last ... [More] released demo such as allowing up to 4 characters in the party. Portraits of the main characters can now be displayed when their talking. Unfortunately the other goals for the new release are still far away. [Less]

This project is not dead, even though there hasn't been any releases made in a year. Work is being done. You can check the svn stats for proof. A recent commit fixed a bug that was introduced when the max party size was increased to 4. I was looking ... [More] through stack traces and pages of code... but it only ended up being a single constant that needed to be changed. A lot of new features have been introduced since the last version. More work needs to be done on the new area. Shops, enemies, the like. And then I need to go back through everything and try to make it more balanced. [Less]

I found a workaround to get sound to work for kqthebetrayer (or kq) in Ubuntu 9.04 or higher. The problem has to with pulseaudio so killing pulse will do the trick. I tried the pulse suspender but that didn't work for me. "killall pulseaudio" ... [More] And then just start kq. Pulse is placed over the top of alsa so your sound should continue to work. You can easily restart pulse by doing a <ctrl> <alt> <backspace>. [Less]

KQtheBetrayer is now hosted on Sourceforge! Progress is going well. Three new maps with their scripts have been created since the 0.2.7 release. A new sidequest has been added to the first section of the game(up to the end of the demo) And a new skill that can be learned... if you find it.

I added a new feature to subversion today. Shops can now prefer types of items and will buy them from you for more then the customary half price. So listen to those NPC's. They might tell you where to get a good deal.
