io_png is a simplified interface to the libpng library:
* read and write PNG files with a single function call
* no custom data structures, a single data array
* read the image file as integer or floating-point array, write from an integer array, or from a floating-point array converted to integer values
* specialized functions to force image conversion to gray or RGB and ensure you always have to handle the same number of channels
