Project Summary

Java is everywhere, on the web, on phones and on computers, sometimes more as an environment and as the underlying programming language. There are java applications developed for the web, games for desktop, but not too many destkop applications.

This project is to create some Java applications that would stream in the Java Run Time environment for the desktop and otherforms of standalone computers, entirely using Java language.

This project initially envisages a few Java applications to be developed that would form part of a Sun Solaris desktop/laptop computer, which will have Open Solaris installed as the operating system which inherently contains all the Java environment required.

Some applications initially thought about are: 1. A java webbrowser 2. An utterly simple Java email client. 3. A java contacts manager that would seamlessly work with the email client, 4. A Java Desktop organizer that would keep the Desktop free of clutter, yet have unobtrusive buttons on the taskbar to jumpstart required applications and 5. a lot more cool java applications, if the word "cool" can be defined.
