Crystal Space was again accepted for Google Summer of code 2014! (http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/homepage/google/gsoc2014). Google Sumer of Code is a yearly event where Google gives students a chance to do a paid summer job for Open ... [More] Source projects. So if you are a student and are interested in earning a bit of money during the summer then you can apply for any of the 177 accepted projects. More specifically you can apply for Crystal Space. You can apply (both as a mentor or as a student) at the Crystal Space Google Summer of Code site (http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/org2/google/gsoc2014/crystal). From there you can also visit the ideas page. But of course you are free to suggest your own ideas too. I would especially like to see ideas related to the AresEd project for example. Discussion about Google Summer of Code can be done on our mailing lists or forums: Community We're looking forward to working with you! [Less]

I started a new Crystal Space community on Google+ (new feature there). This community is the ideal place to let everyone know what you're doing with CS. You can also show off your screenshots there. You can visit (and join) this community here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/105380152825085158376

Jorrit just posted a new blog entry on AresEd. In case you don't know yet, AresEd is going to be a high level tool for editing full 3D games using Crystal Space and CEL. It is currently in an almost usable state (so consider it alpha ... [More] software). Read about the recent developments here: http://projectares.blogspot.be/2012/08/work-on-aresed.html I just posted another blog reporting on the Google Summer of Code this year: http://projectares.blogspot.be/2012/08/google-summer-of-code.html [Less]

I just acquired an ASUS Transformer Tablet with Tegra 3 processor. I've seen a few 3D games on it (demos and free games) and performance is unbelievable. I'm currently busy experimenting with the development options for this platform and it seems ... [More] very good indeed. The normal development language for Android is Java but it is also possible to make native apps in C++ using the NDK. Specifically for the Tegra processor you can get a customized version of the NDK and SDK from nvidia directly which is easier to set up. It works on windows and linux. Using these tools it should be possible to make a working port of Crystal Space on Android. Especially Android devices with Tegra type processors or higher should be able to run pretty powerful Crystal Space games but I'm hoping that older processors can also use it a bit. So what is my current dream? You all know that I'm working on AresEd. I would *love* to be able to develop Android 3D games using AresEd. The idea would be that users can install Ares as an application launcher for Ares specific games. AresEd itself would probably not run on the Android but at least the Ares game player should. So I'm trying to find people to help me with this. I will certainly work on this but I can't do this alone as this needs testing on various devices and there are also areas in CS that I'm not that comfortable with (like shaders and stuff like that). Let me know if you're interested. [Less]
