In computer storage, logical volume management or LVM provides a method of allocating space on mass-storage devices that is more flexible than conventional partitioning schemes.
In particular, a volume manager can concatenate, stripe together or
... [More]
otherwise combine partitions into larger virtual ones that administrators can re-size or move, potentially without interrupting system use.
Volume management represents just one of many forms of storage virtualization; its implementation takes place in a layer in the device-drive stack of an OS (as opposed to within storage devices or in a network).
This flexible storage system is used by Artica in order to manage or to store files from Internals or externals backup.
Virtual disks can be resized, increased every time you want.
We suggest to install Artica on your Linux distribution with LVM during the disk partitioning process.
Most Linux distributions provide this feature in standard mode during the setup.
Imaging you want to share a second disk to your Artica's organizations or to use it has a backup storage or any operations.
On the top menu, select "Manage Your Server" option.
Click on System Information on the left side.
Choose your second disk.
If your disk is already formatted, click on the right link "Build LVM disk" , all data will be erased.
After the LVM disk creation, you should see "Initialize Logical Volume Manager for this disk"
Wait during the operation
A new option is displayed "Create a new volume group".
This group name is used to store your multiple virtual disks. define a real name that will really help you to understand what this group means.
A new little icon is displayed and allow you to create your first virtual disk.
Clik on this icon.
Give to the new interface the virtual disk name and the disk size (like a real disks or a "vmware" disk)
The new disk is created, you can click on the new icon of your new disk in order to display several operations on this disk.
