Map-fu is relatively easy to setup assuming you have a working mapserver installation on your server. The demo runs right out of the box.

The framework tries to supply everything including interface layout, client-side map tools, client-server interaction for map requests and spatial queries. However, it is falling behind other projects out there which are mastering one area (Openlayers - mapping, interface - Ext/Dojo, server-side - MapFish) and combining to form powerful solutions.

Map-fu does not provide client support for OGC standards such as WMS and WFS. If implemented it would allow among other things, layers from any number of third-party servers to easily be used. In addition the parameters being used in requests would be standardized and readily understandable by someone that has experience with these standards.

Currently, I'm liking the use of the OpenLayers mapping client rolled into the Ext Javascript framework and using my own server side code. Also, the MapFish project is putting together some nice Python based server side components that complement OpenLayers and Ext on the client.
