Suggestions for Ohloh 2.0 : Project Value

Even without taking into account frameworks, it'd be very useful to see some kind of aggregated display of project cost by programming language. This would be similar in some respects, and still ... [More] provide some good information for people looking to make a decision, while relying solely on data that Ohloh already captures. To take it a step further, and to help make more of an apples-to-apples comparison, that data could even be broken down according to tags. Perhaps take only the tags which match at least 5 (or some other reasonable number of) projects on each language being compared, but show the average price for all projects that match that tag in each language. This would keep the graph a bit simpler, and make for much more realistic comparisons. [Less]

Suggestions for Ohloh 2.0 : I wonder if itd be possible to add de...

This would also tie into my other post about projects providing value to other projects. The dependency notion is something I didn't consider in my previous post, but it would work even more nicely ... [More] with what I was proposing. Essentially, a project that uses GTK+, for instance, derives value from GTK+ in that it doesn't have to provide that functionality itself; it can just use what others have already done. To add to the notion of automatic discovery, it might be a little more difficult for interpreted languages, which wouldn't have PKG_CONFIG or anything. Many Python projects use distutils and/or setuptools, which might work (I'm not familiar enough with them to know for sure), or possibly the source code analyzer could peek at import statements and match them against known Python packages found in other Ohloh projects. PHP would be more difficult, but not altogether impossible. [Less]

Claiming individual commits would be particularly useful for Django developers (and I expect others), as there are very few committers and a large community of contributors. It'd be nice to be able to ... [More] claim which patches of mine have gone in, without having to describe it textually. [Less]
