Track projects using other projects

Currenly Ohloh only tracks how a project is used by users.

I think it would be just as interesting to see how many projects are based on a certain project.

X projects use this project
X projects are based on this project

Jon,

I like this idea. It may be a little difficult to determine but I detect a value-added feature here that should be worth the effort.

I always find it fascinating to watch the forked information on github for the same type of info. Nobody's going to bother to fork a project with no value... Just as a user of this site, I vote +1 for the idea. Thanks!

Thanks for quick reponse!

I don't think you need to do it automatically. Just like other information about the project like license, repositories, et.c. the project maintainers can add the information themselves.

Or maybe any user could add it and the maintainers on Ohloh can approve it. Most of the incentive for adding such information might be in a maintainer of one project wanting to add that another project is based on it.
