kudo's drop from 8 to 1 when I claimed my contributions

Hi Ohloh developers,

I recently claimed my contributions to several open source projects. For example project Bluefish developer account oli4 (which happens to be me) had kudo rank 8. After I claimed to be account 'oli4' the kudo rank is set to 1 (with 5460 commits) ??? It seems that the kudo rank calculation goes wrong after an account is claimed.

As far as I remember, the kudo rank is based on two things: the people who haven given you kudos directly, and the people who are users of the projects you contributed to. Since there is currently nobody using the first possibility in your case, only the later one remains. However, you being a user of those projects is not counted. (The intent of that rule is to prevent that people get a higher kudo rank only from being the sole users of their own projects.) That might be why your rank has dropped.

but it seems that the kudo's given to 'oli4' are not transferred to me after I claim to be 'oli4'. (from 8 to zero would be a bit weird if I would have been the only user, right?)

No, from 8 to 1 would not be weird, if you had been the only user of all the projects you claimed your contributions for (and if you had no kudos from other projects or people). That would be the intended behaviour.
However, your kudo rank is now back at 8, which means that everything is alright again. I suppose Ohloh recalculates the kudo ranks only in certain intervals (e.g. once per day), and claiming new contributions resets the kudo rank of a user temporarily until it is recalculated and thus set to the new, proper value.

I am using two repositories (googlecode and assembla) for the projects I've given away... and have encountered the same problem: My rank has dropped from 8 to 1.

Claiming contributions to projects seems to (temporarily) reset the kudo rank to 1, as far as I see it. Wait for Ohloh to recalculate your kudo rank. As far as I can see this happens once per day or so.

However, you also seem to be the only user of the affected projects, which means that this shouldn't raise your kudo rank as already stated in my first post within this topic.

Being the only user of some open source project doesn't exclude (re)use of its code or ideas by other developers. They may not have used the project as a whole, but the code may have been of some benefit to them. That's how I explain the Kudos I've received.
This said, the essence of the current Kudo strategy doesn't take code reuse into account, which is very controversial.

The little Kudos have not recovered from the oh-the-bug!
