cvs ls on sourceforge

I'm trying to enlist an old CVS project from sourceforge. I get the dreaded The cvs server did not respond to an 'ls' command. Are the URL and module name correct error.

I checked on the command line, and indeed I get

cvs [ls aborted]: server does not support ls

Didn't sourceforge buy ohloh? Shouldn't they be usable together? What's going on?

[ Of course, a minimal usability feature for a tool aimed at the developer community would be to SHOW the failing cvs command. How that could be omitted is beyond my understanding. ]

Dan,

You are correct that Sourceforge's parent did acquire ohloh, but has since spun it off. I know that we have many Sourceforge CVS enlistments in place but I'm not sure just now on the exact syntax. I also know that Sourceforge was planning to deprecate the CVS systems after the break-in of a few months ago but that plan may be on hold...

The syntax for the CVS enlistments is somewhat byzantine if I remember correctly. It may require anonymous login with a null password? I'll try to look one up in the meantime.

I have submitted your request up the chain to see what can be done to expose more of the error message content. Will let you know here if anything is decided.

Thanks!

Dan,

Looking at a similar project, I think that may be the answer... Looks like the enlistment is entered with the complete URL just as seen in the upper example, anonymous in the login and an empty password and the module name as it appears in the CVS browser display. At least that is supposed to work.

I've sent on an e-mail. If you'd like, I can try some variations on the theme if you run into problems.

Thanks!

OK. I don't really care for CVS either, but some old projects use that, and migrating is obviously not an appealing idea.

Perhaps there should also be instructions on how to obtain the module name -- it can't be left blank, unlike for GIT branches. If you haven't used CVS for 7 years, it's hard to recover this stuff.

It seems this problem persists as described here and at https://www.openhub.net/topics/5890 .

An existing enlisted project https://www.openhub.net/p/z88dk stopped being analyzable about a year ago after having worked for years prior to that. Attempting to re-enter the code location with strings supplied by sourceforge:

:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/z88dk
module name: z88dk

leads to The cvs server did not respond to an 'ls' command. Are the URL and module name correct?

Is there any fix for this?
