Hi,
I have about 30 repositories on Github that aren't forks of someone else's repo. Is there a way to have ohloh automatically get the required information from Github and create the projects here for me? I have no desire to copy-and-paste 30 projects worth of information.
Thanks,
-Mike
Mike,
We are contemplating something exactly like that, but it may be a while before we can accomplish it... I'll note your interest and keep it available in case we need a small-scale test case for a wider automation.
Thanks!
Thanks. If you periodically re-scan for new repos for users that have stuff on Github, then that'll be even better.
In the meantime, I have been looking at creating a semiautomated solution myself. While the API documentation notes that if you use OAuth, then you can use the API to write as well as read, using the permissions of the account that authorized your access. However, there appears to be no documentation on how to actually do that (the writing, not the OAuth), save one example for adding to a user's journal. Am I missing part of the documentation?
Mike,
I have added the reference to this conversation to the bug that will result in some development activity around this.
The details of the API are way above my head - don't be afraid to contact the authors of the documentation with questions. They are very approachable and are always looking for ohloh-savvy input. Let me know here if you need further contact. If they can clarify it for you, it only leads to better documentation for everyone.
Thanks!
Any update on this issue?
It's now very easy to add a project:
http://meta.ohloh.net/2012/03/now-adding-projects-is-easier-so-lets-add-some/
https://www.ohloh.net/p/new
About automatic scan of Github: Be careful not to import test/junk projects and pollute the Ohloh.net database with dead projects. So I would put some guidelines:
Project has been alive at least X months
And if something is interesting that doesn't get added automatically, someone can do it if they find the project worthy.
Best regards,
M ;-)
