Hi there,
I tried to decrease filesize on 2 files and after successfully done that, I recognized, that I cannot upload the files, allthough I deleted the older files. -> Filename has already been taken
I there a way to permanentlx delete all packages/releases/files so I cannot restore them and so I can upload the files again? The Project is xtcModified
kind regards
Trsten
Sorry, Tomcraft,
Once files have been uploaded to Ohloh, they cannot be replaced. The files are distributed to caches around the world, and it is not feasible for us to replace the files.
If this is a security issue or other severe problem let us know, there are some things we can do to mitigate the problem.
Thanks,
Robin
Hi Robin,
no security problem but some kind of annoying that I cannot plublish the more compressed archieves I created. =/
Is it at least possible to rename the old files without the completely delete them? They can remein on the server when they are renamed. I just wnat to publish the new ones.
Could the last chance be, to delete the project and create it new? Is it possible to name the project exact the same name as the deleted one?
kind regards
Torsten
Files uploaded to Ohloh are immutable. They can't be renamed, and you can't upload another file with the same name.
The only real workaround is to publish your new files under a new version number.
mhhhh... So is it possible to delete the project and recreate it with the exact same name? When are deleted projects scheduled for complete cleansing to free up space on the servers?
Kind regards
Torsten
Ohloh normally doesn't delete projects. We never clean up. :-)
If you are hoping that deleting the project will delete the files, so that you can upload them again, that will not work. Deleting projects from Ohloh does not affect our remote file hosting services.
Well, i created a new test-project and was able to create a file with exactly the same name, so the filenames only have to be unique inside a project as it seems.
Now I deleted the Project to start new from scratch. Could you please rename the deleted project and ohloh url as you did with warzone2100?
Ohloh URL Name was: xtcmodified
Project Name was: xtcModified
kind regards
Torsten
I'm sorry to have to tell you this (again), but this is not possible.
If I rename your new project, then its files will have conflicting names with the previously uploaded files.
Hi Robin,
I think (I hope) you misunderstood me. =)
That was, what I thought... if you only rename the old project I cannot upload files with the same name. That is, I guess, because the internal project ID, which is not the same as the project name, is still the same!
But my question was to rename the old project to something like wasted-project
so I am able to start a complete new project called xtcmodified with project URL xtcmodified
and Project name xtcModified
.
Could you please rename the old project that is currently on https://www.ohloh.net/p/xtcmodified/ ???
Kind regards
Torsten
For purposes of uploaded files, the project's url name is the unique internal project ID.
I cannot change the project names as you request because this will result in a name conflict for the uploaded files.
It will not work. You cannot re-upload the same filenames with different bits inside.
Please surrender.
ah ok... didn't know the project URL is the unique internal ID for uploaded files. Most likely there is a numeric internal ID like for xtcmodified it is 348232
.
Are there any plans to modify this file-handling in the future?
That's really getting me down. =(
Kind regards
Torsten
