It seems that few irregular commits of one language can skew the 'Preferred language'. Automatically resyncing some translations, in XML, a couple of times a year means that my total number of lines edited is higher for XML than C++. This is despite my median monthly lines committed for C++ being more than twice the number of XML.
Maybe this stat should reflect the average number of lines, frequency of commits in a language and age of those commits as well?

as XML? I'm not exactly sure what we're talking about here.

I'm inclined to agree. Rather than just looking at the total lines of code added (which is how it works now), I think the better decision is reached by simply looking at the total number of commits in each language.
I'm willing to switch us over to the commit count and try that out today. I suspect it's going to be much better overall.
