Could you provide regional metrics perhaps? This would probably only really work for contributors who have actually created ohloh accounts, and filled in their location information. But, it would be nice to see something like, number of developers by Country, and possibly more fine-grained regions. Perhaps combining a bit of javascript with the embedded Google Map on a user page as well, to show the count of users in the map's area. It is hard to count all the little yellow place markers on the map, especially for areas like Boston or San Francisco where the count is very high.
Such and similar data gathered throughout the entire ohloh project would be useful for a number of applications, from ads to research, to events, groups and so on. Might be worth to think into that direction at some point. I don't see privacy concerns given such data would be provided by the users.
