The Marketplace team is happy to announce a new function today that should help SL merchants with two important tasks:ensuring the proper data is migrated from XStreetSL to the new Marketplacereleasing new versions of their products via a faster and ... [More] easier processIntroducing the Edit Associated Object FunctionThe new Edit Associated Object function allows merchants to change the underlying Marketplace inventory item associated with a product listing. This was previously accomplished via a clunky workaround. The new function will help us with our final migration of product reviews and historical sales data from XStreetSL to the new Marketplace. Going forward, it provides an easier way for merchants to update existing products and release new versions of a product. Some merchants will need to use this to be sure their data gets migrated correctly. Most Marketplace items have already had their data migrated. However, some merchants will have to manually verify that their Marketplace products are associated with the correct XStreetSL items. This applies to you if you have either:manually created any products on the new Marketplace that correspond to XStreetSL products, orrenamed Marketplace inventory items in order to release new versions. If so, please verify that your Marketplace products have the correct XStreetSL ID specified before Tuesday, January 4. That date will be the final migration of data from XStreetSL. After migration is complete, we will remove the XStreetSL Product ID field from each product’s Edit Item Listing page.To use the new function, log into the Marketplace, and follow the steps below:1. Navigate to My Marketplace > Merchant Home2. Click Manage Inventory3. Click Edit for an active product listing4. Under SL Object Name, click, Edit Associated Object5. In the Change Related Inventory pop-up, search for the Marketplace inventory item you'd like to associate with the product listing, and click on it to select6. On the main Edit Item Listing page, scroll to the bottom and click UpdateFor more information, see our wiki:Updating a product during Marketplace migrationSelling new versions of an existing item [Less]

All ... [More] other account management and transaction history services will remain  available on the XStreetSL site through at least the first quarter of 2011.When trading is halted on the XStreetSL exchange, any unfilled orders will be canceled, and all balances being reserved (both L$ and US$) will be  returned to Second Life accounts within 24 hours. You can view both your L$ and US$ account balances by logging in to the LindeX. [Less]

In the epic tradition of me promising to followup when wishes come true...With the Viewer 2.4 Beta comes with the exciting, long-awaited GRADUATION of several "advanced" features to SUPPORTED* status, as denoted by their inclusion in the PREFERENCES ... [More] window (instead of being buried obscurely under-the-hood). You may know a lot of my video tutorials feature the Advanced menu, which, despite its name, has features that are useful for even beginner Residents once you get your hands on them. However, it can be tricky for some to get the right keystroke combination down, so we've added a checkbox!Be sure to download the beta first.Select Me menu > Preferences.Click Advanced tab.Check Show Advanced menu. And ooh, what else do we have here? A checkbox to Allow Multiple Viewer, another thing that's been on the hotlist for... <BRIAN BLESSED Blessed>ETERNITY!!!!</BRIAN BLESSED> My venerable-yet-creaky instructions may soon vanish, replaced by what is a deservedly simpler method. To make this work, still in the Advanced tab of the PREFERENCES window:Check Allow Multiple Viewer and click OK. (It seems a restart isn't required but let me know if you find different.)On Windows, double-click your existing Second Life Beta Viewer shortcut (it's probably on your desktop). On Mac, right-click the app package and select Duplicate, then double-click the copied app. (I don't know what the Linux process is, please deplete my ignorance.)Another Viewer should spring to life with no "Second Life is already running" error so you can have a party with your alts without worrying whether you put one or two dashes in front of the flag (old joke). Also be sure to see Jack Linden's Viewer 2.4 Beta blog post for what else is fresh. And hey, on a tangent, if your computer supports it, have you played with DEPTH OF FIELD? Mighty fine inspiration coinciding with the snow, lemme tell ya... the first few are post-processed, but I find DOF makes it so much easier to achieve "lofi" and "analogue" camera looks. * This is a Beta so to set your expectations, stuff is subject to change. Also, while making these features visible is supported, stuff contained inside — like the myriad Advanced options — is not necessarily, unless mirrored by something already surfaced. Augh, subtleties. [Less]

We've got a full plate for deploys this week. Here's the schedule:Second Life Server (main) channel We'll be promoting a "Maint Server" project from LeTigre to the main  channel. It contains miscellaneous bug fixes, along with increased  access to ... [More] script usage data.2010-12-07, 6:00am: Deploy "Maint Server" to Second Life Server (release notes)Second Life RC BlueSteel We've got a new project called "Compression" that should speed up  region crossings & TPs. As the name implies, avatar data is  compressed when going from region to region, and our tests show this  does speed things up. I won't taint your opinion by telling you the  percents we found, and your feedback is welcome This feature will be enabled sometime shortly after the deploy; I'll post in the forums when we flip the switch.2010-12-08, 9:00am: Deploy "Compression" to BlueSteel regions (release notes)Second Life RC LeTigre LeTigre is getting a "Maint Server" set of bug fixes, some of which  are also going to be found on BlueSteel. The idea is that if the  Compression project has issues, we can still get these fixes out. See  the release notes for details.2010-12-08, 10:00am: Deploy "Maint Server" to LeTigre regions (release notes)Second Life RC Magnum We don't have anything new for Magnum, but it's a few versions behind the main channel so we're going to catch it up.2010-12-08, 11:00am: Deploy Second Life Server code to Magnum regions (release notes)Head over to the Forums for any discussion. Today we’re making available the first beta release of Viewer 2.4. We’ve done a great deal of maintenance work for this release, with significant help from the Second Life open-source community, including fixing a number of interface problems ... [More] , hunting down and eliminating some key crash bugs, and making several performance improvements.A number of features and changes are worth noting with this release. For the most part, we consider the work we're releasing today to be intermediate steps on the way to a better future:A new auto-updater: Whenever there’s a new viewer release, the viewer will now download the new installer automatically in the background, and offer to install an upgrade when you next log in. You still control whether you want the new version, of course. We’ll continue to improve the auto-updater experience in future releases.Clearer preferences: We’ve reorganised several of the preferences tabs to make them more understandable (and to make it easier for us to create new preferences, should the need arise). We've added some colour and transparency options, and fixed some bugs too. There will be more work to come in this area as we strive to make the viewer more customisable.External text editor support: This is one we’re extremely happy about, as it's something Residents have wanted for a long time. If you’re a scripter, then you can now use your own text editor for scripting. The feature still needs a lot of user interface work, but as we work more on build tools in coming months, it will keep getting better and easier to use.Graphics improvements: We’ve also integrated some graphics improvements as we work towards integrating mesh import into Viewer 2. Our graphics systems are undergoing major renovation, and there have been improvements to anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, and snapshots, with more to come in future releases. So, although Viewer 2.4 is fundamentally a maintenance release, it has a lot of great stuff in it. Please give it a try and give us your feedback!Download the Viewer 2.4 Beta today, try it out, and Twitter your thoughts using the #slviewer2 hashtag. My Tips & Tricks are directly influenced by what you — Residents of Second Life — ask for (my inbox, comments, the forums, inworld itself) because useful + fun knowledge has a massive effect on your inworld experience. From "I wish I knew that ... [More] earlier!" basics to "This should be a supported feature..." esoterica, it's my call of duty to keep you covered. I'm like your Vault Boy in times of the post-apocalypse, know what I'm sayin'?Inevitably, I received requests to teach you (as a fellow artiste, hehe) how to do the experimental depth of field (DOF) effect that was introduced into a cutting-edge build of the Mesh Viewer. (Thanks for the heads-up, Runitai!) Long ago, I had a manual tutorial on such a thing, and while this feature doesn't let you get hearts-and-stars bokeh, it's still snazzy and BUILT RIGHT IN. Whether you take photos or make movies in Second Life or just want a more "gamelike" experience — since a DOF shader effect is in many hot titles, including the impressively bleak Metro 2033 that I recently soldiered through... "ARTYOM! SHSHSHSHHH" — depth of field is pretty. But it's not just eye candy, because creative expression is an ultimate power. So yeah, obligatory video so you can cut through the claptrap and get to the good stuff: Big red disclaimer that THIS IS PROTOTYPE, Resident-contributed videos, text instructions and more tips are on this help page, feel free to edit it. Make it awesomer. Let's show the world what we can do. You know the thrill:Depth of field (DOF) help pagepost ur pix and vids in comments plz ^^ Trivia: there are 6 references to games that use DOF above. Spot them all. [Less]
