People who are using jQuery in their project can use $.inArray which gives returns 1 when match is found and -1 when not found.

@Kolink: I like the elegance of your code, but since it is not that much shorter, and in my tests on Firefox anyways, it is slower, I think we ought to stick with what we have. The way it is now is also more readable. Btw, you don't need backslashes
