Project Summary

Easy Secure Mail is a project with the goal of an easy to use secure email client which runs on nearly all available platforms. Easy Secure Mail is entirely written in Java. Security means, that an email can easily be encrypted and digitally signed with a wide range of available encryption and signing methods. Active contents within email, often used by junk email and viruses, is not executed. No one can get control of your computer or infect you computer just by sending an email to you, if you use Easy Secure Mail.
In our opinion the availability of an easy to use secure mail client is very important. Within the last year the count of viruses send by email growed extremly fast. This makes it important to protect a computer against active content in emails. Another reason is junk email. Every day millions of junk emails are send. Junk emails disturb us while our work, they are flooding our mailboxes. Often these junk emails have active content to check if the receiving email address is valid. Easy Secure Mail does not execute active contents so the sender did not get an automatic reply.
But Easy Secure Mail is doing more for you. Easy Secure Mail gets a very powerful email filtering engine. We will integrate services which are able to identify most of the junk email you get and take action on them. The junk emails can be deleted or moved to a special folder. This way you can focus on your real mails and you will not be desturbed with unwanted unsolicited commercial emails.
The powerful but still easy to use email filtering system can be used by you to sort your email automatically. For example emails from your friends can be moved to a special folder. Easy Secure Mail can send automatic answers, forward emails to other addresses or transfer the emails to external programs - and much, much more. The email filtering engine is able to interpret regular expressions - this is a powerful feature for advanced users.
If you want send secure emails, Easy Secure Mail can encrypt your emails with only one mouse click or you can activate the option to encrypt every email, which can be encrypted, automatically. If you receive encrypted email you can decrypt it with one mouse click or activate automatic decryption, too. Using encryption is a very important feature, it is like closing the doors of your house. If you use the encryption methods Easy Secure Mail supports, only the sender (you) and the receiver can read your email. Nobody else is able to view personal or secret things you write in your emails.
To check if an email really comes from the original sender and/or if it was modified on the way to you, Easy Secure Mail can use digital signatures. With digital signatures modifications of emails can be identified and the identity of the sender can be verified. Easy Secure Mail allows the use of digital signatures with only one mouse click or automatically. Receiver of your email can very the integrity of the email, you send them and you can check the integrity of your received email (if the sender uses signing methods, too).
Easy Secure Mail is open source. That means, that everybody can get the source code, study and modify it. The open source license, we use, is the GPL.
