Moodle is a very well-rounded LMS, which includes grading, assessment, and curriculum housing capabilities. It is compatible with other open source software like Mahara (an ePortfolio software), that make Moodle even more comprehensive. For teachers who have previously used Learning Management Systems like Edmodo and Blackboard, Moodle offers all of the same perks, but with the freedom that the others don't offer. Moodle's superior track record speaks for itself, however, I highly recommend this excellent LMS software.
My summer course used this program as its go to learning management system for the entire semester. Little did I know it is an open source program. The functionality is superb. With little background about the platform I had no issues with navigation, discussions and submitting assignments. It reminded me of Canvas.
I got confused after installing this software. I expected a clear user interface, but no. Except for this part, Moodle is awesome. It offers different versions for Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems. Very easy to download and install. Moodle is flexible for customized features, is able to offer certified courses directly within the platform, has gamification features and mobile friendly. But it’s not fool-friendly. You need to read text tutorials or watch tutorial videos to get start.
