In my previous post I’ve introduced the Histogram that will be available in kdenlive 0.7.8. Next in the list of the Color Scopes I added are two closely related scopes: Waveform and RGB Parade. Both of them do the same, Waveform for Luma, RGB Parade ... [More] for the RGB components. Therefore I will not always explicitly point out that properties hold for both scopes and speak of Waveform only. More in the full article » read more [Less]

In previous versions of Kdenlive in some effects like pan & zoom and in the transitions Affine and Composite you had this little red rectangle to modify size and position. For 0.7.8 I tried to make editing this type of parameter more convenient ... [More] and efficient: All the options previously available but hidden do now take most space in the effect stack. The red rectangle disappeared therefore you can now drag and resize your item directly on the monitor. Find out more in my blog post on "On-Monitor" Effects [Less]

A new feature introduced in Kdenlive is track effects. There are several situations where this can be useful, for example: You want to make a black and white movie You need to correct the audio balance of all your clips So now, with Kdenlive 0.7.8 ... [More] , instead of applying the effect to all clips in timeline, you can simply add the effect to the track, and all clips in that track will have the effect applied. To apply an effect on a track, just drag & drop an effect from the Effect list widget to your track header (see screenshot on the left). You can then adjust your effect settings just like usual (but note that because we had not enough time, keyframes are not yet supported on track effects). We added some basic audio channel manipulations. We have had a Mono to stereo, which basically copied the left channel to the right. This was expanded to allow copying right-to-left. In addition, now you can swap the left and right channels to correct stereo inversion using Swap channels. Read more in the full article … read more

A lot of work to make this possible within MLT happened over the course of the year. The two main additions are: Center crop and Animation. Read more in the full article … read more

With kdenlive 0.7.8 (planned release date: Sept 13) I added some color scopes, used for displaying color information. In this section I will give a brief overviews over scopes in general and explain the most basic scope, the histogram, in detail. ... [More] Color correction. This is a really important topic in video editing. It starts with simple stretching of the tonal range if the brightness is not ideal, goes on with white balance to ensure that white remains white and not blue, and finally ends with creating looks which make your video look unique. (Remember the blueish Minority Report? The contrasty The Departed?) For color correction we basically need two things, Effects for changing the colors and Scopes for monitoring the changes. The first scope I'm showing now is, as already mentioned, the histogram: Read more in the full article … read more [Less]
