We love hearing about people using FreeSWITCH. This particular item comes from the Hak5 video series on Revision3 Internet TV. About 8 minutes into the video the discussion turns to FreeSWITCH. Programmer Christian Fernandez (co-creator of the ... [More] Custard app) presents some interesting stuff on using FreeSWITCH in various environments. I'm glad to see that FreeSWITCH adoption has started to make inroads far beyond our core community. I promise that none of the FreeSWITCH core developers told Christian to say anything bad about Asterisk! :P Check out the video here.   -Michael   [Less]

I think we're all sick of hearing about money problems "in this economy" and unemployment hovering around 9%. There is, however, a bright spot: software development. There is actually a healthy demand for skilled Web developers and other programmers. ... [More] There are also a growing number of FreeSWITCH-related opportunities. Anthony Minessale just posted a call for two different positions for which there is high demand. Also, if you do a Google search on things like "FreeSWITCH jobs" you will see that there is a growing number of enterprises looking for developers with FreeSWITCH skills.   I also thought this blog post over at TechRepublic was rather interesting. It gives 10 reasons why it's a good time to be a developer. Check it out - I think you'll agree that software development is a great place to be, especially if you are keeping your skills up to date.   -Michael [Less]

[More] the cloud using Tiggr and PhoneGap.    If you end up using these tools to build apps that work with FreeSWITCH then by all means let us know. An interesting post came across my desk today. It's a nice blog entry by Mike Cardwell at grepular.com. In it, he discusses in a fair amount of detail how he set up DNSSEC for his domain. I thought you might find it enlightening so I am passing it along.   -Michael

If you are not already aware, the FreeSWITCH community supports a non-profit organization called the Open Source Telephony Advancement Group, or OSTAG. The objective of this organization is to promote advancements in open source telephony for the ... [More] greater public interest. The primary focus is on open source software, however the group will also consider open source hardware and open source documentation projects. What projects is OSTAG currently working on? That's where they want your input.   OSTAG is seeking comments on what kinds of open source projects could use some attention. Once they've identified a few projects with a high priority they will be able to focus efforts on fundraising for those projects and then gathering both volunteers and paid consultants to get those projects completed. Once a project gets completed it will be completely open-sourced. In some cases, such as a project that is complex and requires multiple developers, a public git repository will be created. (Commit access will be limited to the approved developers, but anyone will be able to download and inspect the source code.) The ultimate goal, of course, is to produce high quality software that is liberally licensed and available worldwide for the greater public interest.   If you have have ideas on open source telephony projects then please send an email to [email protected]. OSTAG will let you know if a project of interest to you has been selected for production.   The FreeSWITCH developers and the OSTAG officers would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who lends their support to the advancement of open source telephony projects.
